How can you make a difference in the lives of students?
Teach.
More than anything, students in under-achieving schools need to learn. They need to be taught by excellent teachers who will challenge, motivate, engage and support them to achieve academic success. They need the great teachers already in their schools to stay and recommit to excellence, and they need other experienced, effective teachers to join the faculty.
Many of the children in these schools come from low-income families, have physical or learning disabilities, or are English Language Learners. They all have great potential. They all have big dreams for the future. And they all need teachers who believe in them and who have the skills and experience necessary to help them overcome the barriers most likely to hold them back.
Our students are counting on you to make the classroom a welcoming, exciting place to learn and grow every day.
Lead.
School transformations succeed only when teams of teachers and leaders work together to shape school communities fiercely committed to excellence.
As a teacher leader, you may have numerous opportunities for leadership and growth, such as...
- Participating on the School Redesign Team
- Having a voice in important decisions about the school
- Assuming teacher leadership roles, such as mentoring new teachers
- Working in professional learning communities, with additional time to collaborate, plan and learn
- Participating in and leading high-quality, job-embedded professional development
- Receiving extra compensation for additional responsibilities
Inspire.
Above all, you will have a unique opportunity to make a meaningful, lasting difference in the lives of students – students who deserve a high-quality education in every classroom.
When you accept the challenge to help lead a school transformation, you will do more than teach. You will mentor. You will encourage, support and nurture. You will open minds and stir imaginations. You will inspire. And your students will inspire you as they discover the joy of reaching their full potential.
You will make history.
